Castiglione: child hit in via Torino

The Castiglione stretch of Via Torino returns to the center of attention regarding the issue of safety.

Castiglione: child hit in via Torino

The episode that occurred last Friday, when an accident occurred involving a child on a bicycle and a motorbike, in fact, triggered the “alarm” again.

Luckily everything seems to have been resolved without major consequences, but the scare was really great.

The section in question is the straight road that leads towards the roundabout for Settimo and towards San Mauro. A stretch that has already been the scene of other accidents in the past, with much more serious consequences.

The danger of that stretch

It is precisely in light of this that the residents had already turned to the municipal administration to highlight the problem related to safety and invite it to take measures. However, the municipal administration, not being directly responsible for the management of the road, was unable to do anything other than turn to the Metropolitan City and propose interventions related to safety.

One solution could be to place illuminated pedestrian crossings, with the aim of inviting motorists to reduce their speed.

Via Torino and the sp 590 of Val Cerrina, together with via Mario Caudana represent the two main road junctions crossing Castiglione.

It is clear that, being a high traffic road, particularly during the morning and evening rush hours, they are always monitored with great attention by the competent bodies.

“We will ask Citta Metropolitana to intervene”

“Safety along Highway 590 remains one of our top priorities.” This is the comment of Mayor Castiglionese Loris Lovera.

«The stretch in question is not the direct responsibility of our municipal administration but of the Metropolitan City. Regardless of the dynamics of this latest episode, what I can say is that I will return to ask the Metropolitan City for intervention to make this road safer. One of the hypotheses is that of a pedestrian crossing that lights up when requested, similar to the one already positioned in the Piana area, towards Settimo, so as to catch the attention of the motorist or motorbike in transit”.

And again: «In recent years, bollards have been installed and speed controls have been increased, but this still seems not to be sufficient, especially if one has to contend with the incompetence and imprudence of some road users who, as it would seem in this case, they carry out very dangerous maneuvers right in the center of town. The fight against imbeciles is still unequal.”
