The “Boom Baskin Cup” has ended, the summer tournament that stands out as one of the most inclusive sporting events of the year. Over 350 people, including players and companions (photo), invaded the playing fields of the Pesaro seafront for four days and the enthusiasm got the better of the heat, with the 12 teams from all over Italy who gave life to exciting matches, team spritz competition and inclusive table football tournament, a new discipline of the Italian Inclusive Sports Authority. As always, inclusion was the winner both on and off the pitch. “Looking at those fields, I thought that this could be paradise for me and my son.” The phrase, pronounced by a parent as he crossed the threshold of the Cristo Re fields with 200 players on the field, with and without disabilities, including his son, describes the atmosphere well. Words of great emotional power, which tell how the real world is not always suitable for those without certain abilities, making disability perceived as a burden for society. In basketball all this does not exist and this tournament has the ability to cancel out the differences by creating a magical bubble that you wouldn’t want to leave.

The final of the tournament was the same as last year, but with the result reversed: this time Reggio Emilia lost to the hosts Booom, after a hard-fought match to say the least. The sporting director of the Pesaro club considers himself more than satisfied: “It was a long and busy season – explains Droghini -, the fear was of being a little exhausted after the national finals which didn’t go as we wanted, but the boys demonstrated that they have the attributes and they managed the feat of managing the tournament and also grabbing the victory. We will have to start again from here next year.” In short, the Booom Baskin Cup, despite changing its name, continues to amaze and produce extraordinary numbers with the intention of getting bigger from the next edition.
