From jazz to classical, from blues to pop: the Music Festival is packed in Bergamo

Bergamo. A date on which, throughout Europe, “any type of music, professional artists and musicians, amateurs and enthusiasts” is celebrated. It’s June 21stdate chosen for European Music Festivalwhich this year also saw Bergamo as a protagonist, despite some difficulties related to bad weather.

An initiative born in France in 1982 and then spread like wildfire until 2016, when in Italy more than 830 cities joined the European Festival. A day dedicated to music, which can inhabit and revive some significant places in the city. This was also the case in Bergamo, in the Città Alta, despite the difficulties linked to the strong wave of bad weather that hit the city late on Friday afternoon, with the inevitable interruptions of outdoor performances. An evening of free concerts, linked together by the experience and ability of the musicians, but also by the curious and attentive listening of the spectators: a Music Festival for those who make it and for those who, under the arcades, stopped to listen , intrigued and eager to hear the musicians at work.

An initiative carried out byCinema and Art Association, in collaboration with Proloco Bergamo and thanks to the support of BCC Brescia, Fondazione Cariplo and the Lombardy Regional Council, with the patronage of the Municipality of Bergamo, the Province of Bergamo, the Lombardy Region and the Bergamo Chamber of Commerce.

The evening was characterized by a wide variety of musical genres, from jazz to classical, from blues to pop. In Piazza Cittadella, it was possible to listen to the repertoire of ancient and classical music of the Monterosso Musical District (ProPolis APS), with performances by BandaLarga (wind instruments and percussion instruments), the ProPolis Choir, the Sweet Baroque Orchestra (string, keyboard and breath) and OrcheStrana (a homogeneous formation of adults and children). Under the porticoes of Piazza Vecchia the Canticum Novum Choir performed, composed of around 40 elements directed by Maestro Erina Gambarini, with a classical and gospel repertoire (which ranged from The Lion Sleeps Tonight by The Tokens to Don Pasquale by Donizetti, from But Not for Me composed by George Gerwish to the Champions League anthem, composed by Tony Britten).

At the end, the weather was kind, allowing the (expected) grand finale in Piazza Vecchia, with the meeting of all the musicians for the performance of some famous international songs, which made adults and children sing.

A celebration that was the driving force behind the promotion, like every year, of a local body or association: this year the organizing committee chose the PA Croce Bianca Città di Bergamo, which offers transport and voluntary assistance to the sick and injured, always with a voluntary and free spirit.
