“There is a democratic alarm that many seem to overlook, starting from the big parties: abstentionism. Tomorrow and the day after tomorrow we return to the polls for the run-offs in the cities where there has not yet been a clear choice for one candidate rather than another. It is important today more than ever that all voters go to vote and that every citizen exercises this fundamental right which is the basis of our legal system and which was conquered at great cost by our grandparents – Thus the national President of the ACLI, Emiliano Manfredonia – We need a concrete response that promotes the participation and centrality of citizens, a serious reform that puts the voter back at the center, with his specificity and dignity. Also for this reason, the ACLI have presented two popular initiative law proposals which aim to reverse this trend, on the one hand by renewing the life of the parties in the name of transparency, also with the reintroduction of public financing, and on the other part trying to involve citizens again in political decisions, creating participatory assemblies whose opinions are binding for the parties themselves”.
