It is the final stretch of the Bari 2024 Municipal Elections: the electoral campaign for the run-off scheduled for Sunday (polling stations open from 7am to 11pm) and next Monday (from 7am to 3pm) ended on Friday evening. The challenge is between Vito Leccese, supported by the center-left and (although without official affiliation) by the lists that supported the candidate Michele Laforgia, and Fabio Romito, supported by the center-right.
Leccese met his supporters in front of the committee in via Argiro, where he held a last rally-party with the outgoing mayor Antonio Decaro: “A very long, tiring, exhausting campaign because it started in mid-February. It was a great and extraordinary human adventure in these 4 months I have met many people, I have built the program together with the citizens. In two days the people of Bari will have to choose whether to continue on this path of growth or go back to 20 years ago. We must not waste time regarding the use of the funds Pnrr for the city. We will be able to improve on issues related to territorial planning. The new cultural paradigm with which we will approach urban planning issues will be less land consumption, less expansion, more urban regeneration. We can no longer afford not to make our contribution to safeguarding the planet.”
Romito, however, closed the two campaigns with two appointments in San Cataldo (near the small beach of Provolina) and in Municipality V, where the run-off elections for the Municipalities will take place. In the afternoon, however, Romito welcomed into his committee the Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, the Deputy Minister of Justice, Francesco Paolo Sisto, and the regional commissioner of Forza Italia, the Honorable Mauro D’Attis: ” We have done – said Romito – a great job which has served to rebuild the political community of the centre-right which has been missing for years. This is the aspect I am most proud of. We must accelerate until Monday because the result is within our reach. We can win the administrative elections. It will depend on the people of Bari and on how much we manage to make the people of Bari understand that it is a choice between those who try to maintain their power and us who represent change”.
