The tourist boom at the end of May in Gallura has already brought about record waste

At the end of May there was a peak of tourists in Gallurawhich led to the record of waste: data doubled compared to 2023. The person who has the pulse of the situation is the Consortium Cipnes Gallurawhich manages the disposal of undifferentiated waste.

“The residual dry waste treated by the plant Spiritu Santu, managed by Cipnes Gallura – they explain -, increased by 15% between January and May 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. But in the month of May the growth was 30%. AND in the last week of May the increase over the same period of 2023 was 50%, the highest historically recorded percentage increase. The waste amounted to 750 tons“.

According to the analyzes carried out by Cipnes, the record increase is in line with the boom in arrivals at Olbia airport. “The numbers for 2024 – May, in terms of volume of admissions, was comparable to July – are therefore sensational, especially considering that those for the summer of 2023 were up 4% on both 2019 and 2022. And the summer of 2024 announces itself as the one with the greatest tourist presences for Sardinia and Gallura, with the latter being the first on the island with well 5 million visitors“.
