home automation and new website reveal its treasures Il Tirreno

CARRARA. The light that lights up on the most evocative corners and a site with a virtual tour accessible from home (the new site is www.duomodicarrara.it) or from the screen at the entrance that invites you to take a journey into history, faith and beauty . It is the Cathedral of Sant’Andrea Apostolo in Carrara that is being renewed and looks to the future, with a project supported by the Cassa di Risparmio di Carrara Foundation. It is a multimedia totem that combines several functions that the parish needed, unique in its kind because it was conceived and designed specifically for the Carrara Cathedral, as explained by the moderator parish priest Don Piero Albanesi during the inaugural press conference at which The president of the CrC Foundation, Enrico Isoppi, and the culture councilor of the Municipality of Carrara, Gea Dazzi, participated.

But let’s see the detail of the digital Touch Screen station, next to which there is a coin acceptor.

Through the screen, which is connected via web with the official website of the Duomo, it will be possible to access the technical data sheets of the building, as well as view it through a complete digital rendering. The virtual tour of the church will allow the visitor to specifically know the identity and history of the works that adorn the Cathedral, also through special QR Codes that enable audio reading, but also to enter those places that are normally closed to the public. For now the sacristy can be visited, but in the future it is planned to also render the bell tower, with its historic bells from the 1920s and the uncommon view from above the roofs of Carrara, and the underground crypt.

But it doesn’t end there, because next to the screen, a coin acceptor has also been placed which, via a modern home automation system, controls the localized switching on of the lights. In this way, it is possible to save significantly on electricity consumption, leave the Duomo in its original state of dimness and concentration and at the same time allow, when necessary, intense lighting with just the expense of one euro. The effect of the transition from dim light to the full light of the spotlights is actually something that noticeably affects the eye. The installation of the station, as the parish priest Don Piero Albanesi said, «also satisfies the need to guarantee greater safety as a container for offerings. Ultimately, with this project, we tried to obtain the maximum result with the right effort . This is a project that was possible thanks to the work of volunteers and the community, and which also aims to be a way to enhance a building that is part of the city not only as a spiritual heart, but also as an artistic heritage, identity and social community”.
