CASARANO – The community of Casarano is also involved in the Awaster project, financed by the cross-border cooperation program “Interreg VI-A Italy-Croatia 2021-2027” to consolidate ties in the context of collaboration between European territories in the field of waste. All partners met on 23 and 24 April in Labin as part of the Green and Blue Energy Transition Days of the Istria Region and agreed on the direction to be given to the activities. The delegation from the Municipality of Casarano, made up of the mayor Ottavio De Nuzzo and Andrea Carrozzo, head of the public works-urban planning, environment and ecology sector, had a bilateral meeting with the mayor of Labin, Valter Glavičić.

This meeting, focused on strengthening relations and exploring future collaborations between the two Municipalities. The territorial context of Italy and Croatia is facing great challenges related to the growing amount of waste that threatens the conservation of their natural beauty. Data shows that the amount of waste is increasing, requiring urgent action.

The importance of strengthening, at an educational and professional level, basic knowledge on waste management, also by promoting environmental awareness from an early age, was recognized by six Italian and Croatian partners who implemented the project with the aim also to reduce waste production by promoting and supporting the principles of the circular economy through educational programs and paths, as well as through the cross-border exchange of knowledge and experiences involving students.
