Colleagues and teachers of the doctor who died prematurely were present

VITERBO – The awards ceremony for the students of the “Paolo Ruffini” scientific high school in Viterbo who participated in the competition in memory of Dr. Luigi Riccardo Storcè, who passed away prematurely in October 2022, took place on Friday 15 June 2024, a competition wanted by the doctor’s family which had as its theme “Rare diseases”.
As part of the initiatives of the “Paolo Ruffini” scientific high school for the valorization of student merit, the president of the Viterbo Medical Association, Dr. Antonio Maria Lanzetti, wanted to host the director, Professor Claudia Prosperoni, the students and their teachers for the delivery of scholarships.
The family’s hope is that the initiative will continue over the years by addressing other issues related to the world of science and the medical profession.
The young students of class III B: LINA RATTAB, AURORA DELLE NANACHE, SILVIA VILLANO, VIRGINIA SANTINELLI, ELISA CICCARELLA and RICCARDO MECALI were awarded by some dear friends and colleagues of Dr. Storcè: Dr. Giancarlo Mannozzi, Dr. Anna Rita Castrucci, Dr. Roberto La Paglia and Dr. Massimo Sassara, lifelong friends and classmates, together with the journalist Mattia Ugolini, who shared many battles with the doctor.
The awards were then given to CECCARINI ANITA and GENTILI ALESSIA of 3ES by the lawyer Piercarlo Napoli, trusted consultant of Doctor Storcè, and the president Piero Camilli, with whom Luigi shared the passion for sport and in particular for football.
Instead, the other large group of 3B composed of ARDUINI SARA, FANTAUZZI VIOLA, PROIETTI SOFIA, FIORENTINI FLAVIA, ZIACO MARTA and SPAZIANI ARIANNA were rewarded by the two managers present, Maria Teresa Ubertini, Luigi’s teacher when he attended the “Mariano Buratti” classical high school and the principal of the Ruffini high school Claudia Prosperoni, always available to sponsor initiatives for the benefit of young people.
Particularly engaging and at times truly moving was the memory of Professor Ubertini, who took the opportunity to urge the students present to practice reading, to become passionate about the study of the classics, an inexhaustible source of inspiration today as in the past.
Finally, Dr. Paola Santi, colleague and friend of Dr. Storcè, recalling his professional and human figure, quoted Seneca, the first letter to Lucilius, a passage that Luigi loved, where we are invited to treasure all the time we have. This is what Seneca suggested to us:
“You will be less of a slave to tomorrow if you have made yourself master of today. While we postpone our commitments, life passes by.
Finally, the first place EMMA OLIVIERI in class 5B was awarded by Luigi’s daughters, Elisabetta and Giuditta and by the doctor’s sister, Maria Grazia. The student produced a video that was particularly appreciated by the commission for the sensitivity with which the topic of rare diseases was presented. The family sincerely thanked the Ruffini teachers for their active collaboration in supervising the development of the multimedia materials produced by the students.
The conclusions of Dr. Lanzetti, President of the Viterbo Medical Association, with the hope of repeating the initiative in the future in memory of his friend and colleague Luigi Riccardo Storcè.
