Fedez and Codacons will bury the hatchet in favor of the right to life. The meeting between the two “historic enemies” who decided to join forces for an important common battle took place today 21 June in Taranto, in front of the former Ilva: people’s health and environmental protection. A strong signal of solidarity towards the people of Taranto – citizens, workers and children hospitalized in the pediatric hospital – who still suffer today from the poisons emitted from the steel mill chimneys.
Together with Carlo Rienzi and Fedez present today in front of the factory were 30 victims of the former Ilva, the mothers of children born with serious genetic problems and Valerio Cecinati, head of the pediatric oncology department of the Santissima Annunziata Hospital in Taranto.
Fedez and Codacons make peace
«It is disconcerting that in 2024, in a country like Italy, there are scenarios in which one has to choose between the right to work and one’s health. It would be interesting to generate a discussion, also to understand whether part of the Pnrr funds could be allocated to a redevelopment worthy of the name of the former Ilva because to date, in my opinion, the necessary investments have not been made. They also told me about piles of asbestos still there, it’s a dystopian scenario.”
Fedez said this in Taranto while presenting a joint initiative with the president of Codacons Carlo Rienzi in favor of the Taranto community, dealing – it was said – with the health and environmental emergency caused over the years by emissions from the steel plant.
After years of legal battles and back and forth on social media, «Codacons and I – explained the artist – simply sat down at a table and decided to end this dispute which would have led fundamentally to nothing and to seal this peace by trying to ignite a spotlight on this problem that needs to be spread and echoed. Our idea is to try to use the media wave of our meeting as a vehicle by fighting a common battle. On the side there is also a donation from me to the pediatric oncohematology department of the Taranto hospital, but it is not part of the project. During Vita Natural we will try to raise the topic as high as possible to ensure that people talk about it.”
Valerio Cecinati, director of the pediatric oncohematology department named after Nadia Toffa, the correspondent of the Le Iene program who took action to support the initiative of the mini bar in the Tamburi district to sell ‘Ie Jesche Pacce Pe Te’ t-shirts, also participated in the conference. ‘ with which 500 thousand euros were raised for the activation of the same department. The president of Codacons Rienzi confirmed that the association’s lawyers have presented a request to the Court of Assizes of Appeal of Taranto to obtain the doubling (from five thousand to ten thousand euros) of the provisional compensation recognized in the first instance sentence of the Environment trial sold to the civil parties represented in court by the association.
