“Once again the President of the Region, Renato Schifani, has demonstrated commitment and attention in favor of the city of Agrigento and its province, establishing and reserving exclusively for the benefit of the Agrigento territory a permanent ‘table’ for the monitoring and management of the water emergency. I also express my appreciation for the work of the regional councilor for public utility services, Roberto Di Mauro, for his constant work to remedy a very serious and historically unprecedented crisis”. Thus the mayor of Agrigento, Francesco Miccichè, intervenes in response to the results of the ‘control room’ urgently convened in Palermo at Palazzo d’Orleans by president Schifani with the water crisis in the Agrigento area on the agenda. Miccichè adds: “A concrete and sustainable short- and medium-term ‘road map’ has been outlined. In Agrigento the exploitation of new wells, and already existing wells, will guarantee approximately 120 liters of water per second more in just over a month, of which the first 60 within 20 days from the start of the works, already possible with the 6 millions allocated to the Agrigento province from the national allocation. Furthermore, as assured by President Schifani, the Region, through the Civil Protection, will purchase tankers and adequate means to supply the difficult accesses in the historic centre, and, above all, one million euros in the budget changes now being examined by the Ars will be foreseen for the design of the Porto Empedocle watermaker”.
