PERUGIA – The entire proceeds of the concert “Historia Tango Nuevo ai confine del jazz”, event which was held last March 2nd in the San Francesco al Prato auditorium. A significant gesture of solidarity at a time when the diocesan Caritas has drawn the attention of institutions and citizens to the difficult situation of a growing number of families in the area with the presentation of the IX Report on poverty and resources for 2023 entitled “Chains broken”.

«On the occasion of the extraordinary evening of the concert – explain the Rotary Club – we wanted once again to demonstrate our belonging to the community and the desire to be an increasingly active part of it by donating the entire proceeds of the evening which was earmarked for adoption, for an entire year, of two local families who are in difficulty. A concrete gesture of closeness to the many people, defined by Don Briziarelli as “the new poor”, who every year turn to Caritas for the first time in their life journey. Adopting two families for a year represents not only a gesture of attention and closeness to the members of the two families but at the same time it aims to be a challenge to help them ‘break the chains’ that currently limit and compromise their future. In fact, over the course of the year, the adopted families will be constantly followed by Caritas operators with the aim of supporting them on the path to recovery and return to a less critical life. Part of the significant donation to Caritas will also be used to support some people to help them enter the world of work.”

During the meeting, the presidents of the Rotary Clubs organizing the concert, Andrea Pedetta (Perugia), Aurelio Forcignanò (Perugia Trasimeno), Nerio Zuccaccia (Perugia Est), Nicola Farinelli (Fortebraccio Montone) and Gabriella Urbani (Città della Pieve), spoke handed over the sum raised, once again realizing the spirit that animates Rotary: attention to the territory and serving the community above all personal interests. Don Briziarelli, underlining how the difficult situations involving Italian families are constantly increasing due to the various crises of recent years, renewed his appreciation to the Perugia Rotary groups, also on behalf of Archbishop Ivan Maffeis, for this further testimony of closeness to people’s needs and sensitivity towards vulnerable people.
