Crystal clear waters, unique places for their scenic beauty, attentive to sustainability but also to the protection of biodiversity. These are the Italian seaside resorts where the Cinque Vele of Legambiente and Touring Club Italiano fly. 21 marine tourist municipalities and 12 lakeside resorts have been awarded the important banner and rewarded today in Rome on the occasion of the presentation of the guide Il Mare più bello 2024, edited by the environmentalist association and the Italian Touring Club. The guide collects tourist information and environmental characteristics of the municipalities in Cinque Vele, including the commitment to protecting the Caretta caretta turtles. Leading the top five for 2024 is Pollica, Acciaroli and Pioppi, (Sa) the Cilento municipality included within the Cilento Antico district, in Campania as far as Tuscany is concerned, fifth place for Castiglione della Pescaia, in the Maremma district Tuscany.

Tuscany was the second most awarded region after Sardinia with 5 locations between the provinces of Grosseto and Livorno and which, in addition to Castiglione della Pescaia (Gr), includes the municipalities of Capraia Isola (Li), Isola del Giglio (Gr) , Capalbio (Gr) and Marina di Grosseto (Gr);

Not only seaside locations, but also lakeside locations have been the subject of analysis and awards in the Legambiente and Italian Touring Club Guide. In Tuscany, the Cinque Vele have been confirmed in Massa Marittima (Gr) on Lake Accesa, which ranks in third place following the provinces of Trentino and Alto Adige which dominate the top positions.

“This year too, I can only be very proud of the Tuscan performance of our most attractive seaside destinations. The most beautiful sea includes and enhances, in fact, smart islands such as Capraia and Giglio, as well as historically virtuous municipalities such as Castiglione della Pescaia and Capalbio” – declares Fausto Ferruzza, president of Legambiente Toscana – “but we are really witnessing a general improvement in environmental performance almost everywhere on our coast, a clear sign of an increasingly widespread sensitivity, I want to point out the 4-sail growth of the Municipality of San Vincenzo, particularly committed to the issue of coastal protection”.

New this year, also present in the Il Mare Più Bello guide, are the 33 common friends of sea turtles marked with the appropriate symbol “the turtle” and where the sails of Legambiente and Touring Club Italiano flutter, among of which the Tuscan members of Turtle Nest are Orbetello, Marina di Grosseto, Bibbona, Camaiore and Castiglione della Pescaia.

All the tables relating to the 5 sails of seas and lakes can be consulted on the Legambiente website.
