Manduria: The mayor of Taranto signs the ordinance that prohibits work exposed to the sun

The mayor of Taranto, Rinaldo Melucci, has signed an ordinance which imposes a series of requirements to avoid dangerous situations for those who work outdoors.

The measure comes following discussions initiated by the mayor himself with the social partners and with the National Association of Building Contractors (ANCE), all in agreement on the adoption of measures aimed at guaranteeing better protection, quality and safety in the workplace .

A more pressing need than ever to avoid the risk of thermal stress and heat stroke, especially for those who carry out activities in the agricultural and construction sectors.

The ordinance prescribes an absolute ban on work in cases of exposure to sunlight during times of the day when particularly intense temperature levels are recorded.

In this sense, the mayor has decided to prohibit outdoor work activities in conditions of prolonged exposure to the sun from 12.00 to 16.00 on days in which the risk to workers’ safety is reported on the “Workilmate” website as “high ”.

Obviously, taking into account factors ranging from the type of tasks performed to the location of the workplace, it was forbidden to carry out work tasks in the face of prolonged exposure to sunlight even in other time slots of the same day, this after convenient and appropriate assessment of the potential risks of work by employer bodies and control and prevention bodies.

“The health of workers – declared Mayor Melucci – is a priority that requires every useful initiative to protect it, which is why we have prepared, after the agreements reached in a climate of great collaboration with ANCE and the social partners, this ordinance which strengthens the rules already in force in a decisive manner.”
