FLORENCE – Last hours of the electoral campaign for the run-offs of the local elections: in Tuscany there are 18 challenges. Voting takes place on Sunday 23 June from 7am to 10pm and on Monday 24 June from 7am to 3pm (you always need an electoral card to vote).

Attention focused on the battle for the conquest of Florence between Sara Funaro, “first citizen” candidate of the center-left led by the Democratic Party and Eike Schmidt, “civic” candidate supported by the center-right due to the political value of the capital. In recent days the two candidates have spent time mobilizing their supporters: the most feared risk is in fact that of a consistent abstention, given that 24 June is the patron saint’s day in Florence and many could decide to take a day off and don’t come back to vote in the city.

For the last day of the electoral campaign, the two candidates have scheduled the last direct confrontation organized by “La Nazione” (3.30 pm). For the closing, Schmidt has scheduled the party for the ballot at the Central Club (via del Fosso Macinante) from 7.30 pm, while Sara Funaro will return to be supported by the national secretary of the dem Elly Schlein, from 9 pm with an event in the square SS. Annunziata.

In the morning, radio interviews for both candidates with the latest thrusts. “In Schmidt’s program there is no word work, there is no mention of healthcare, there is no mention of the fundamental issues” said Funaro (Pd), interviewed by Controradio. “In our program we have included a whole series of proposals that are fundamental: from the creation of community homes spread across the area to the home services that must be implemented, up to the accompaniment and support of family caregivers”. Funaro then complained about the low level of her opponent’s campaign, from personal attacks to the complaint filed against councilor Andrea Giorgio for his statements on candidates convicted of Rzazism on the lists supporting Schmidt.

The centre-right candidate, speaking on Radio Bruo, relaunched some of his proposals: municipal insurance for citizens and businesses who are victims of thefts and break-ins (“a few million euros are enough” he assured), and the possibility of creating a stadium from scratch and not by renovating the Franchi: “If Fiorentina were not there, which seems unlikely to me, others could be involved, be they one or ten”, so “a project financing is done and they can certainly and easily be found investors who would be interested” reiterating that the hypothesis of building the stadium in the state-owned area currently occupied by the former Perotti barracks in via del Gignoro. Then, sounding the charge to him, he said: “Now technically we start from zero to zero, it’s not like whoever won first has an extra point.”
