Diocese: Foligno, the “Speakers’ Olympics” on 25 June

On Tuesday 25 June, at the municipal facilities in the locality of Santo Pietro di Foligno, the annual festival of parish oratories will take place promoted by the Umbrian diocese through the Pastoral Office of the coordination of the oratories in collaboration with the Italian Sports Center section of Foligno and the Service diocesan youth ministry. The event, “The sport that unites us”, will involve over 600 boys and girls aged 6 to 13, and their entertainers, educators, parish priests, for an entire day, with the aim of enhancing sport and its social values , educational, brotherhood, peace. The speakers’ day is inspired by the Paris Olympics, an event established at the end of the 19th century by Baron Pierre de Coubertin with the dream of uniting all peoples through sport. The young male and female athletes will try their hand at athletics, football, swimming, minivolley, minibasketball, dodgeball and human table football. The delegations of speakers are scheduled to arrive at 8, and at 8.30 the opening ceremony with the singing of the anthem of the Italian Republic and the lighting of the “Olympic fire”. Followed at 9 am by the greeting of Bishop Domenico Sorrentino and the institutions present. The competitions will end from 11.30am at the Palasport Paternesi where the final party and awards ceremony will take place. In the afternoon, from 5pm we move to the historic center of Foligno, to Piazza Matteotti, where the same animators and educators will be involved in the orienteering activity, a sport that rewards those who manage to safely explore a territory, in this case to discover of some significant places in the historic center of the city of Foligno. The day, sponsored by the Municipality of Foligno, was possible through the involvement and synergy of the departments for sport and social services, the availability of various entities that manage sports spaces and the collaboration of some sports clubs.
