[NAPOLI] JUSTICE FOR SATNAM! SATURDAY 22ND DEMONSTRATION IN NAPLES WITH THE MIGRANTS AND REFUGEES MOVEMENT NAPLES: AGAINST THE MELONI GOVERNMENT, AGAINST RACISM AND EXPLOITATION, FOR THE RIGHTS OF EVERYONE!

A machine cuts your arm while you work illegally in the countryside. Instead of rushing you to the hospital, the owner’s son drops you off at home. Your wife screams and begs for someone to call 118. When it arrives you have already lost too much blood, you die after two days of agony. Meanwhile the owner of the company, on TG1, says, without any cross-examination, that it’s your fault.

It’s not a horror story, it’s what really happened to Satnam Singh, a farm worker, who died in the province of Latina. But his case is only the tip of the iceberg of what happens every day in the Italian countryside, factories and construction sites. Thousands of workers, especially immigrants, are forced to work illegally, without contracts, holidays, sickness, rights, for starvation wages, in dangerous or degrading conditions, thrown away as waste as soon as their body is no longer able to operate , beaten as soon as they try to protest. They are often attacked while going to and from work, they are often hit by cars. If they then try to report, they are treated with racism by the institutions and no journalist is interested in listening to their voice. Also because the lack of a regular residence permit makes migrants more vulnerable, more susceptible to blackmail, always at risk.

This condition is not the result of chance, of some bad corporal or of some delay in the responsible offices.

The corporal is only the link, often the last, of a chain at the head of which are the giants of large-scale retail trade (large-scale organized distribution), who profit by imposing very low prices on agricultural businesses. To make a profit, these places the burden of the supply chain on the labourers, avoiding making regular contracts, avoiding any employment centre, and using the gangmasters to impose semi-slavery conditions on their employees.

The total freedom to hire illegally, without going through any employment centre, disinvestment and the total connivance of the Labor Inspectorate, propaganda and restrictive immigration laws which serve ONLY TO CREATE A RESERVOIR OF WORKERS BLACKMAILABLE AND ENSLAVEABLE, these are the conditions with which the Government precisely protects the interests of the owners of large-scale retail trade and agricultural companies.

It is a structural condition, desired and sought for decades by centre-right and centre-left governments, who have no votes to take from migrants, but seek some among their employers, who benefit from a docile and underpaid workforce, and among Italian citizens , who are pushed by incessant propaganda to place the blame not on those above them but on those below them…

In this context, the Meloni Government – already responsible for the Cutro massacre and hundreds of other deaths at sea, with its murderous repressive laws that prohibit rescue, which declare “safe” countries where there is daily violence, while with our money continues to do business with Libyan mafiosi and to build concentration camps in Albania -, it is rapidly worsening the situation. With the latest choices on flows and documentation it allows the explosion of a “counterfeit market” which puts migrants’ money in the pockets of criminal organisations, dismantles the already few labor inspectorates, creates a climate of impunity and racism.

For all this Power to the People, continuing the path of opposition to the government which saw over 10,000 people in the demonstration on June 1st in Rome, will participate in the demonstration called by the Migrant and Refugee Movement on June 22nd in Naples at 10:00

We appeal to all citizens, Italian and foreign, to unite in the name of rights and demand:
– the right to reception for all applicants for international protection, to put an end to clandestinity;
– the reduction of very long waiting times and a one-year residence permit for all applicants until the completion of their process;
– the conversion of the special protection permit into a work permit;
– a plan for the emergence of migrants without documents who already live and work in the area;
– greater controls by labor inspectorates, the end of illegal work, the obligation to hire from employment centres, respect for contracts;
– a real fight against gangmastering and criminal organizations linked to the Italian bourgeoisie;
– a minimum wage for everyone!

We invite citizens, associations and all free people to join us in this fight for justice and dignity for everyone!

Enough racism and exploitation!
