Hail and strong thunderstorms, risk of storm in Lombardy: orange weather alert today

Milan – After rains – of limited intensity – of the last few hours, on Lombardy it will be another weather warning day. Today, in particular, could be particularly critical, with strong thunderstorms particularly in the northern area of the region. Today, Friday 21 June, the entry of a depression wave is expected due to the transit of a depression wave from France cold air front over Northern Italy responsible for a marked increase in instability and the formation of showers and thunderstorms, even of strong intensity. For this reason, an orange alert has been issued for strong storms and a yellow alert for hydrogeological risk.

Weather alert in Lombardy

As explained by Civil protection Today precipitation will be probable as early as the morning in the Western Alps and Pre-Alps and in the Middle Valtellina, locally in the form of showers and thunderstorms, where a marginal involvement of the North-Western plain will already be possible at this stage. From the afternoon, a progressive increase in instability is expected starting from the West with widespread showers and thunderstorms across the Alps and Pre-Alps, followed by partial involvement of the medium and high plain sectors as well, albeit with low forecast reliability. The phenomena expected in the lower plains and the Apennines are unlikely and at most isolated. Corresponding to the storm phenomena, they will be more intense possible medium-large hailstorms and strong gusts of wind. In the Alpine and pre-Alpine areas, with good probability, the convective precipitations will locally assume a semi-stationary character and persist over very limited areas: possible accumulations of up to 80-100 mm in a few hours.

The weather picture in Italy: the forecasts

Double attack with extreme weather conditions in Italy: still super hot in Africa with peaks of 41°C in the Centre-South, superstorm cells forming in the North with lightning and hail. Antonio Sanò, founder of the site www.iLMeteo.it, confirms a difficult time for our countryfrom a meteorological point of view. The African anticyclone Minos will bring another 48 hours of scorching heat from Tuscany downwards, while al Two cyclones are arriving in the North. The first cyclone, coming from Spain, will cause violent phenomena in the central-western Alps and Pre-Alps in the next few hours and will then push instability towards the Po Valley and the eastern Alps: in summary, the low pressure area coming from Spain , will decree the end of the heat in the North below gusts of wind, hail and intense downpours with possible formation of superstorm cells.
