The Salerno community can once again admire the Monument Funeral of Margaret of Durazzokept inside the Salerno Cathedral.
Yesterday morning – as reported today in the newspaper “The Chronicles” available online – the ongoing consolidation intervention was presented, in the presence – among others – of Monsignor Alfonso Raimoauxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Salerno-Campagna-Acerra, of the mayor of Salerno Vincenzo Napoli and the national president of Inner Wheel Maria Pietrofeso Andria.
The work, carried out by “Vassallo Center-Restoration” and financed by Inner Wheel Club Salerno, was selected by the Ministry of Culture for the technique used in the recovery of the work and presented at the International Restoration Exhibition held in Ferrara last May.
«The monument needed to be stabilized due to some problems undergo. It was a complex intervention because it was standard, we discussed with the Superintendence, with luminaries regarding the use of these new techniques but we are satisfied because it was successful», explained the administrator of the Vassallo Restoration Center, Antonio Vassallo.
«After the analyzes which lasted thirty days, the work took place over three months. We are always proud of what we do, but working in our Cathedral was something that makes us proud.
We received recognition from the Ministry of Culture which highlighted how our restoration intervention was one of the most important and during the presentation at the International Restoration Exhibition in Ferrara we were praised, together with the Superintendency, by the ministry», added Vassallo, recalling that the work was selected as one of the most important at the Ferrara Restoration Fair.
«With the intervention of Inner Wheel, an exceptional work was recovered thanks also to the Vassallo company and the Superintendence. After this recovery, it was possible to reveal the caryatids that line the work, bringing to the surface a very suggestive polychromy.

Great satisfaction from the national president of Inner Wheel Maria Andria Pietrofeso: «Over time as a Salerno club, as I am also a member of this club – he said – we have financed various restorations in the city.
Right here in the Cathedral there are other restored monuments, such as the 18th century work of Sant’Antonio, the painting of Solimene, the cloth of San Matteo and two silver statues that are carried in procession. We believe that our commitment must also be carried out to safeguard our artistic and cultural heritage of our territories».
In the end, Antonio Falchiofficial responsible for the historical-artistic sector of the Superintendency of Salerno, who followed the works, intervened to illustrate the architectural and historical value of the Mausoleum.
