The Borgo and via Ponte Romano committees were authorized to demonstrate on the occasion of the Tour de France passing through Faenza. This morning they will present the form of protest conceived and the yellow t-shirt, printed for this purpose, which they will wear in the bike parade on some streets that cyclists will subsequently travel on on June 30th.
But the two committees are not the only ones who want to draw the attention of public opinion. While at the Tour there will be protests above all regarding compensation (insufficient, complex and not yet received), the Destra Senio Committee is once again making its voice heard regarding infrastructural restoration, fearing further misfortunes regarding the leaks not yet repaired near via Casale and of others also reported on the Lamone upstream of the Via Emilia.
«In April, when the Bailey bridge in Faenza was inaugurated, we obtained reassurances from General Figliuolo – says spokeswoman Paola Casadei – but they were empty promises. Nothing moved. We submitted over 500 signatures on a petition to the Homeland Security Agency. But what happened? In practice, a discussion has opened on the skills of those who must intervene. The farmers who supported the rivals were called one by one, stating that they could settle their rivals on their own initiative, but upon presentation of a project with an estimate and that they would subsequently receive 50 percent of the expenses incurred. Well, the compensation for damage to crops hasn’t arrived yet and they’re asking us to spend more money to fix their rivals? We’re not quite there. They don’t understand that we don’t have the resources to do it.”
The conflict would be generated by the fact that the embankments would be of dubious ownership. «For us they are from the Region – continues Casadei – while they say they are private individuals. And we even felt threatened with very high fines, due to discharges passing through the embankments which they attribute to us and which they say contributed to the failures. However, those drains were opened by the Region, there are court sentences that affirm this, but I fear that we will have to go through legal action. Meanwhile, the banks remain breached and we risk further floods with every storm.”
The area of the open leaks could be considered alluvial, and the leaks could serve to lighten the flow of the river by flooding the surrounding fields, but containment works would still be needed, because the area is densely inhabited, and moreover there are no “flooding easements” stipulated ”.
In short, if the skeins are not unraveled, with the next intense rain there is a risk of new floods that could be avoided.
