“Pinocchio”, the show to fight addictions in Livorno

On Saturday 22 June, at the Santissima Annunziata parish in via NL, there will be a performance of the show “Pinocchio” with the company La Svolta di Bim bum be (entry 8 euros, free for children up to 10 years old, the “suspended ticket” is appreciated “). The event is part of the initiatives to fight addictions, including the consumption of alcoholic beverages, organized by Alcat Livorno, an association that can count on five clubs that cover almost all areas of the city frequented on average by around seventy people.

Alcat Livorno, the clubs’ objectives

It is a multi-family community, not separated from the local community, which includes people and families of different ages, education, profession, drinking habits and lifestyles. What these families and people have in common are the problems and suffering linked to alcohol consumption, also combined with the use of other substances defined as “drugs” (alcohol and drugs, alcohol and mental problems, etc.). For some time the clubs have also been welcoming families with a gambling problem, starting from the assumption that it is not a place of therapy in any case because it is based on the concept that the use of psychoactive substances is not an illness but a type of behavior. Whoever goes to the club is therefore not a “substance” patient, nor is his family. At the Club there is no “healing” nor even a healer. Those who are part of the Club have a purpose: to change their overall lifestyle by stopping the consumption of substances that lead to addiction. The objective is to promote the common good by creating values, skills, innovation, respect, relationships and participation.
