The two new free registration calls launched in collaboration with Siae – Italian Society of Authors and Publishers both expire on August 15th, starting today (June 20th) from Lucca Film Festival 2024whose twentieth edition will take place from September 21st to 29th, with the artistic direction of Nicola Borrelli.
The first of the two notices concerns the first edition of the competition Good first one!reserved for first works in short film format. The intent is to help emerging authors gain greater visibility. Registration is free, the short must have a maximum length of 20 minutes and must be the first work created by the author, furthermore it must have been finished in the year 2023 or 2024. To participate, you must complete the registration form which can be downloaded from the website (click here) and attach a link to the short film. In case of selection, the film in DCP format is required. The selected works will be screened within the Festival and three prizes will be awarded by a jury of industry professionals: best first work, best screenplay and best soundtrack. This last recognition will be awarded in collaboration with the Luigi Boccherini conservatory of Lucca and the Mai master (music applied to the image). The tender expires on August 15th. The second announcement, Writing Cinemaconcerns a screenwriting course for kids aged 16 to 25. The aim of the course is to help young aspiring authors to refine the art of film writing. The course is free and will take place in Lucca before and during festival. To participate it is necessary to send a subject for a short film of a maximum of one page (1,800 characters, 30 lines of 60 characters each) and a motivational letter, together with the registration form which can be downloaded from the website (click here), to the email [email protected] . The call expires on August 15th and 15 students will be selected. During the laboratory days, frontal teaching will be integrated with optional participation in at least 3 masterclasses with great international directors and artists guests of the event. The face-to-face lessons will be held from 20th to 28th September from 3pm to 5pm, every day, together with the teacher, screenwriter and director Cristina Puccinelli. A lesson will be held by the screenwriter Massimo Gaudioso, who will be the guest teacher of this first edition of the project. At the end of the course the students will deliver a short film story and the best will be rewarded on 29 September with a prize of 1,000 euros intended for the development of the same work. A jury of experts will decide the winner at its sole discretion.
