REGGIO EMILIA – The Opera Season 2024 – 2025 of the I Teatri Foundation will bring to the stage of Municipal Theatre, from November to May Gioachino Rossini’s Moses in Egypt, Vincenzo Bellini’s I Capuleti ei Montecchi, George Friedric Händel’s Giulio Cesare and Giacomo Puccini’s Bohème.

Inauguration with Moses in Egypt by Gioachino Rossini, a work of a sacred nature – to avoid official sanctions against performances of profane works during Lent – where the love story between the Egyptian Osiris and the Jewish Elcìa takes place in the biblical setting that tells of the last plagues of Egypt , the broken promises of Pharaoh to Moses, the famous scene of the waters of the Red Sea opening up for the passage of the Jews and falling on the pursuing Egyptians. Love and politics, jealousy and heroism, without neglecting the themes of revenge and the search for glory, will be addressed by the Italian Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Giovanni Di Stefano, with the voices of, among others, Riccardo Zanellato and Dave Monaco. Pier Francesco Maestrini’s direction is called upon to create a work whose charm lies in the evocative ensemble scenes, in the choruses and in the solemnity of certain declamation passages.
A co-production of the Teatro Comunale Foundation of Modena, the Theater Foundation of Piacenza, the Theater Foundation of Reggio Emilia.

The Capulets and the Montagues was born from yet another meeting between Vincenzo Bellini and the librettist Felice Romani. Starting from the Shakespearean tragedy, Bellini reserves the part of Romeo for a mezzo-soprano voice (which at the Valli Theater will be that of Annalisa Stroppa), following a tradition of en travesti roles now almost out of use for the time, but still strongly present in Italian theatres.
The well-known story of the tormented love between the two young lovers will see the I Pomeriggi Musicali Orchestra conducted by Sebastiano Rolli and directed by Andrea De Rosa in this Teatri di OperaLombardia and Fondazione I Teatri di Reggio Emilia co-production.

Space for the baroque with Julius Caesar by George Friedric Handel entrusted to the direction of Ottavio Dantone, one of the greatest experts in the repertoire, at the helm of his Byzantine Academy, to paint an emperor who was no longer a cold marble statue, but a human being with his interiority and his feelings. The new staging is designed by Chiara Muti, for a co-production that brings together the theaters of Ravenna, Piacenza, Modena, Reggio Emilia, Lucca and the Haydn Foundation of Bolzano and Trento, with a vocal cast made up of the most established specialists such as Raffaele Pe, Marie Lys, Delphine Galou, Davide Giangregorio, Filippo Mineccia.

Bohème, the opera by Giacomo Puccini dedicated to youth, dreams and love will be on stage with a new staging, born from the call for the selection of a directing project aimed at young creatives, on the occasion of the centenary of the composer’s death. This co-production Fondazione Teatro Regio di Parma, Fondazione I Teatri di Reggio Emilia and Teatri di OperaLombardia will therefore be based on the energy of the team The Box of Memories (director and costume designer Maria Luisa Bafunno, set designer Eleonora Peronetti, choreographer Emanuele Rosa and lighting designer Gianni Bertoli) selected among the 58 international participants, which includes a cast of big names starting from John Osborn, Roberta Mantegna, Juliana Grigoryan, with the Parma Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Riccardo Bisatti.
