CEGLIE MESSAPICA – Ceglie Messapica is also among the 14 Apulian municipalities awarded with the Fiab Yellow Flag, recognition from the Italian Environment and Bicycle Federation which evaluates and certifies the commitment of Italian territories in promoting cycling as a model of sustainable mobility.

Mayor Angelo Palmisano: “Ceglie Messapica confirms itself as a virtuous city in policies for soft mobility, an important indicator of the quality of life and the good level of services it offers. With the entire Administration – he adds – we will continue to work to improve cycling because tourism by bike is an important aspect for increasing our tourist attractiveness”, and again: “With the responsible municipal offices, which I thank, some projects are being created and completed which will decisively strengthen our commitment in terms of sustainable mobility, a project that we are carrying out also thanks to the collaboration between the municipal administration and the constant commitment of Vincenzo Intermite and all the collaborators of the Slow itineraries in Murgia Messapica project”.

The recognition gives the locations a score from 1 to 5 assigned on the basis of various parameters and represented by the same number of “bike-smiles” on the flag. Four areas of evaluation: urban mobility (urban cycle paths/infrastructures, traffic calming and speed), governance (urban mobility policies and services), communication and promotion, cycle tourism.
