The Lombardy Region, as established by resolution approved on 14 June 2024 upon proposal ofEnvironment and Climate Councilor Giorgio Maionehas allocated the sum of 985 thousand euros for the safety of the former landfill.
The former landfill, active from the 70s until 1986, caused concern to the community after its closure due to several environmental problems resulting from the failure to properly manage biogas and leachate. In fact, the funds will be used for definitive coverage and for the progressive reduction of leachate.

“We arrive at the conclusion of a long journey, which has suffered slowdowns mainly due to the increase in costs and consequently to the increase in the expenditure initially budgeted – he states Giorgio Maione, Councilor for the Environment and Climate – the dialogue with the mayor was constant. He then continues: “In this first year of the Fontana council we have unlocked environmental works that have been awaited for years: reclamations, safety of former landfills, urban regeneration interventions. We want to continue working for the good of the territory and the environment. It is among the priorities of our administrative mandate.”
Municipality of Maleo
Over the years, the municipality of Maleo has attempted to intervene on the body of the former municipal solid waste landfill located in the Cascina Sessa area. The funds allocated by the Lombardy Region However, they are essential for safety.
