Trani, Colonna trabucco: beauty to be valorised

The Cathedral, the port and the historic center. These are the three most common indications to present the beauties of Trani, the most touristic city in the sixth province of Puglia and one of the most visited centers in the entire region. In the last three years, however, there is a new beauty from Trani, who has been able to attract the attention of the media, fashion, events and various initiatives. We are talking about the Trabucco di Colonna, which stands at the foot of the monastery of the same name.

It is the southernmost trebuchet in Italy, which has nothing to envy of those of Abruzzo and Gargano. The “fishing machine” is perfectly functional and has found the light again thanks to the investment of private entrepreneurs, who made it identical to the one that was decommissioned (due to lack of use) in the early 1950s. With the trabucco, the name of Trani has crossed national borders, becoming a place featured in the advertising campaigns of a well-known international fashion brand, such as Giorgio Armani, who launched the new beachwear line from here last May. Going back in time, the trebuchet was also the place of great charm described by the French TV Tf1 in the peak news at 1pm. But it also hosted the RAI cameras twice, on the occasion of as many episodes of the well-known show “Green Line”. Without forgetting that last year, on the same wooden planks that protrude into the sea, part of the video for one of the most beautiful songs by Italian singer-songwriter Sergio Cammariere was shot. The list of attention towards the Trabucco grows exponentially, with the various local TV channels continuing to use it as a “studio on the sea” for various programmes.

A place of great tourist potential, which the people of Trani themselves forget they have. As a demonstration of the great resources of this magical place, in summer 2024 the Trabucco will host cultural events entitled “Incontri al Versante”, with chats with nationally renowned artists and book presentations with writers of the moment. Two events have been made official and organized by the “Corte Sveva” association: July 27th with Selvaggia Lucarelli who will present his book “Il vaso di pandoro”, and July 29th with Luca Barbarossa who will present his book “One hundred stories for one hundred songs ”. Scheduled for July 20th, however, is the dawn concert-event entitled “Nessun Dorma”, with the Duo Alborada, made up of two internationally acclaimed virtuoso pianists, Alfonso Soldano and Giuseppe Greco. Other musical events and tastings of the local food and wine excellences are in the works.
