Great anticipation for “Witchcraft“, the series of meetings on the steps of Via Porto organized by the Vecchie Segherie Mastrototaro, which will liven up the city of Bisceglie throughout June by hosting, like every year, the finalists of the prestigious Witch Award.
To open the author’s evenings tonight, June 20th Mario Natangelosatirical cartoonist known for his ferocious humor and often at the center of controversy for his drawings: he will present “Ash“, a book in which irony and the painful story of the loss of a loved one are mixed.
In dialogue with him David Sevenevent in collaboration with Bicomix And URCA Association.
“There is nothing more comical than unhappiness” wrote Samuel Beckett and in this story Natangelo proves it by transforming his unhappiness into the funniest, most ruthless, tragic of poems. And showing us that, truly, laughter is the best cure for a bleeding heart. Can we joke about one of the most atrocious deaths, that of a parent? In the aftermath of his mother’s death, Natangelo turns the weapons of irony towards himself and begins publishing a comic diary online. He draws, he wants to tell, he tries to share his pain one cartoon at a time, one panel at a time. Fragments emerge that travel back and forth in time, a sweet and painful, intimate and everyday story, which – without giving up sarcasm and comedy – analyzes loss and lack. Meanwhile, his working life is overwhelmed by a grotesque political trial that is intertwined with personal drama in a hilarious tragic whirlwind.
In his “notes from mourning”, the author somehow answers the question ‘what if a family member had died? Would you have made a cartoon about it?’, outlining a dark moment in life with the truest and most bitter humour.
