Four live female events, from tonight until June 30th in the cloister of Palazzo Blu in Pisa. While waiting for the fourth edition of the Pisa Jazz Rebirth festival, which will be held in July at the Giardino Scotto, the intriguing program should not be missed, which sees four fantastic musicians and band leaders present their original projects.

The event opens with the long-awaited concert in which Michela Lombardi with the Circles Trio of the Pisan pianist Piero Frassi (with Gabriele Evangelista on double bass and Bernardo Guerra on drums) give prestige to the new standards by reinterpreting with renewed verve the pieces of authors of subsequent generations to that of the myths of the so-called Great American Songbook, such as Cole Porter or George Gershwin.

This time, in fact, the group is targeting composers mostly linked to pop music and soundtracks, but also songwriters and singer-songwriters. A repertoire that varies from Sting (to whom Michela Lombardi and the Piero Frassi Circles trio dedicated two albums) to the French composer Michel Legrand, from Johnny Mandel to James Taylor, from Burt Bacharach to Piero Ciampi, to highlight once again the versatile musicality of Michela Lombardi and the brilliant inventiveness of Frassi.

The second appointment sees on Sunday 23rd a young artist on the crest of the wave, the Neapolitan guitarist Eleonora Strino, taking the stage at the head of her trio, with Francesco Ponticelli on double bass and Zeno de Rossi on drums.

Their repertoire ranges from songs of the jazz tradition, to virtuosic pieces typical of bebop, to original compositions of clear Neapolitan inspiration, but there will also be space for some rearrangements of popular themes such as “Il Postino” by Luis Bacalov and Argentine tangos. On Thursday 27th there will be a solo piano performance by the Greek composer and improviser Tania Giannouli, who transfers onto the keyboard, with personality and character, her compelling explorations in the world of jazz and today’s music, which have their roots both in the classical training of this virtuoso, who on her Hellenic folkloric influences.

Grand finale on Sunday 30 June with the jazz pianist of the moment. A musician with excellent musical taste and sense of swing. This is the case of the Roman Francesca Tandoi, who will perform at Palazzo Blu with Matheus Nicolaiewsky on double bass and Sander Smeets on drums. An ideal power trio to present live the sparkling seventh album “Bop Web” which has already been received with enthusiasm in Paris, Berlin, Warsaw, Rotterdam and many other international locations. Thanks to a record that ideally pays homage to Dizzy Gillespie, but is composed almost entirely of original songs and is embellished with the reinterpretation of two classics: “Overjoyed” by Steve Wonder and “Agua de beber” by Tom Jobim.
