The Ztl in the historic center starts today. In Corso Vittorio Emanuele it will be active from 6.00 pm to midnight in the stretch that goes from the intersection with Via Marconi to Piazza Martiri della Libertà. From tomorrow, however, Thursday 20 June to Monday 30 September from 8.00 pm to 2.00 am, always in the same stretch of Corso Vittorio Emanuele. Shopkeepers in the historic center turn up their noses as they would have liked to be involved in the choice, as explained by the local president of Confesercenti Fabio Cammarata. “It is with disappointment that we learn, representing the category, of the changes to the ZTL regulations in the historic center.
What is most aberrant is not the provision, on which it is inappropriate to go into detail here, but the modus operandi with which this administration, in the final stages, decides autonomously and communicates substantial changes in vehicular traffic overnight , of the pedestrian one and the level of sanctions that will derive from it – says Cammarata – the carelessness and the inappropriate timing are paradoxical, with which this administration continues to highlight its inadequacy through measures that are completely disrespectful towards the traders who operate in the center historic and who have no way and time to notify their customers.
Even unaware citizens will incur fines due to the confusion caused. If you think about it badly, it would seem like a measure communicated in a timely manner designed to purposely generate confusion in the patrons of the historic center, in order to induce them to move to other commercial areas of the city or just to raise fines and raise cash. Clearly we imagine the absolute good faith dictated by the inadequacy of this administration but we know that sooner or later we are right to think badly. It is useless to represent the continuous and persevering lack of collaboration with employers’ associations. No prior meeting was organised. Probably – Cammarata continues – the need would have emerged to activate the changes to the ZTL from 1 July so as to allow all citizens to metabolise the time change and traders to implement marketing policies to inform customers. Never mind, it’s yet another lack of comparison. What I hope for the candidates in the next ballot is to see in the comparison with employers’ associations, such as Confesercenti, an element of advantage and benefit in the certainty that following consultation it will be possible to manage the balance on which civil society is founded”.
From tomorrow, Thursday 20 June to Sunday 15 September from 8.00 pm to 2.00 am the ZTL will be active on the Lungomare, from the intersection between Via Vasile to the Borsellino Bretella. Two announcements from the municipal administration are causing discussion, the first: 24-hour pedestrian area on the seafront. The second states that in the stretch between Via Vasile and Bretella Borsellino cars cannot be parked 24 hours a day. Inconveniences and complaints are expected for swimmers and motorists. Furthermore, it will be necessary to understand whether there will be the resources to guarantee adequate control of the area, something which last year did not happen until several weeks after the entry into force of the ZTL.
