Fials Taranto has reported a significant undersizing of healthcare personnel and numerous rights denied within the ASL and Sanitaservice. These issues constitute the fulcrum of the dispute platform drawn up by the union, which highlights a situation now considered unsustainable.

Emiliano Messina, general secretary of Fials Taranto, raised the alarm for months, without obtaining answers from the building in via Gentile in Bari. “It is a dramatic situation – states Messina – and the problems can no longer be postponed, also considering the high rate of onco-haematological and chronic-degenerative diseases in the area, probably caused by local industry”.

The province of Taranto records very high rates of diseases linked to industrial pollution, as well as a high rate of heart disease and diabetes. According to Messina, a strengthening of the workforce is necessary to effectively deal with these health emergencies.

Faced with this situation, Fials Taranto proclaimed a state of staff agitation and organized a public demonstration with sit-ins in front of the offices of the general management of ASL Taranto for 4 July 2024, from 09.30 to 12.30 .

“We decided to hold a sit-in to highlight the critical issues in Taranto healthcare, due to regional responsibilities – explains Messina – In other provinces, insolvency procedures have been called, while in Taranto everything is blocked, resulting in a low level of care”.

Among the main claims of Fials Taranto include:

– Serious shortage of nurses, midwives, social health workers, administrative staff, prevention and rehabilitation technicians and OTS;
– Failure to announce public competitions and notices for various professional figures;
– Failure to recognize meal vouchers/canteen service;
– Failure to hire the 17 cleaners who won the competition in 2022;
– Staff shortage in Sanitaservice;
– Failure to start hiring procedures for drivers/rescuers;
– Failure to adapt the contractual levels of IT support staff;
– Failure to adjust the contractual hours for Sanitaservice part-time staff.

“We will not be satisfied with promises – concludes Messina – We want immediate answers”.
