So much pain, disbelief and even regret for the final farewell to Jeidy and Aurora, mother and daughter who died after being hit by a train on 13 June at the Montesilvano station, for what was deemed by the investigators to be a voluntary and mother’s desperation. Hundreds of people crowded the “Il Giardino della Luce” funeral home in Marina di Città Sant’Angelo, where the farewell funeral rite was held. Relatives and friends embraced her husband and father Donato in a warm embrace, including the class of the school Aurora attended, the classmates of the little girl’s karate team and the mayor of Montesilvano Ottavio De Martinis.
After a brief introduction with some religious reflections, the mayor spoke about a tragedy that leaves you speechless and that takes something away from all the citizens of Montesilvano. A drama that still shocks and tears the hearts of the entire community six days later:
“It is impossible to remain indifferent in the face of such a gesture, mother and daughter united in life and also in death. A pain that leaves one feeling helpless, and I don’t even know if it is right to find the causes and motivations of a dramatic gesture of this type. We must but to reflect, a tragedy that leaves many question marks and a unique void. The human condition is vulnerable, and my thoughts now turn to Jeidy and Aurora’s husband and father, to their relatives and friends. That is the appeal I can make to stay close as a city community to the family, and I can only say have a good trip Jeidy, have a good trip Aurora”:
The interventions of the operators of the Montesilvano social cooperative who had been following Jeidy and Aurora for two years were very touching and incisive:
“About 2 years ago in our studio Jeidy asked us for help because she was desperate and we promised to help her as soon as we could. Despite this, with great pride she often returned to ask for help, until we were able to welcome her. We built a relationship of trust over time, a mother and daughter who had an almost symbiotic relationship. They let themselves be guided and were a strength for everyone and they entrusted themselves to us with a rare and precious trust, in every gesture and in every word honored by their presence, making us feel part of their lives. Our studio still resonates with their laughter, their strength and energy. Each of us thought about giving up on June 13th, due to immense pain but then the parents and children who every. day they thank us they have given us the strength to carry on. It is a moment of great pain, confusion and unanswered questions, and for this reason we must reflect on our responsibilities towards others, in a society that leads us to run and ignore the needs and difficulties of others, without leaving anyone alone. And this can mean the difference between life and death. What remains is the awareness of the need for attention and care towards those who ask us for help, and now we imagine them up there releasing their positive energy”.
To conclude the thoughts for Jeidy and Aurora, the teacher of the class Aurora attended:
“Dear Aury, you were like the fresh breeze that caresses and tickles you. You were vital and affectionate, the center of our class. We brought you a box of gifts for you, we will always remember your smiles and your hugs. We loved you so much and we will always love you, together with your mother.”
