«Clean energy for sixteen thousand families from the photovoltaic system»

A photovoltaic system that extends over 30 hectares, 50,848 photovoltaic modules, production capacity of 50 thousand MWh per year, power of 27.9 MWp, for a supply of clean energy available to 16 thousand families: this is Aprilia 1, the largest large Sonnedix photovoltaic system present in Italy. World leader in the production of renewable energy since 2009, also a pioneer in the creation of agricultural solar systems, active in 10 countries around the world, Sonnedix has chosen the Campo di Carne area to build the new photovoltaic system.

At the center of the project, which will be followed by a second plant by 2025, again on Via Genio Civile, is respect for the environment and the promotion of clean energy: thanks to solar energy, in fact the Aprilia plant will bring benefits to the territory, with a significant reduction in CO2 emissions and a saving of over 25 tons of carbon dioxide every year. For this green work, carried out in collaboration with the Municipality of Aprilia, Sonnedix boasts international partners such as Ing, Statkraft, Baywa re. «This project was made possible thanks to the financial support of ING and the collaboration with Statkraft, which will purchase the energy produced by Aprilia 1. These partnerships are fundamental to the success of the project and show how cooperation between companies can lead to exceptional results », comments Mario Volpe, representative director Italy and Head of Development Southern Europe at Sonnedix. Technological innovation and environmental sustainability which will have a significant impact on the lives of citizens who, being able to use clean energy, will do their part in protecting the environment.

«Sonnedix has almost 500 MW operational in Italy and the goal is to reach 1 operational gigawatt in the next 18 months, with a total investment of 1 billion euros», explains Mario Volpe. «We started the Aprilia 1 project in 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, in 2022 we opened the construction site and in April 2024 we concluded the works and started the plant. Aprilia 1 is a project that confirms and strengthens our commitment to the environmental sustainability of the territories”, concludes Volpe.

«We work to contribute to a sustainable future and we are happy that the Aprilia area has welcomed us. The kindness we put into the human relationships between the partners of this project is the mirror of the care we want to have for the environment”, comment some project partners who spoke at the presentation conference. From the area of Campo di Carne, where the Aprilia 1 plant is located, some war residues from the Second World War also emerged: «During the trench reclamation of the areas affected by the works, in particular in the area of the second plant, we found a hundreds of bombs, which we had removed by a specialized company”, explains project manager Veronica Marini.

The Sonnedix photovoltaic system will also have a positive impact on the community: «Aprilia 1 highlights the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors to improve the territory: 400 thousand euros of public compensation works have been carried out to complete the system, such as the public park in via Pergolesi, of 3 thousand m2, and 55 lots of social gardens which will be assigned by tender”, underlines councilor Marco Moroni, present at the inauguration together with the mayor Lanfranco Principi and the councilor for productive activities Carola Latini .
