The Rome Prosecutor’s Office has requested the dismissal of the case for the Lega senator Antonio Angelucci, investigated on charges of incitement to corruption. The investigation was started following the complaint by the former Lazio Health Councilor, Alessio D’Amato. According to what D’Amato declared, the parliamentarian offered him 250 thousand euros to “unblock” the payment of alleged credits from the San Raffaele di Velletri, to which the Region had revoked the accreditation due to serious irregularities.

The facts date back to 2017, when the San Raffaele Group threatened an employment crisis during a “conciliation table” called by the prefect of Rome. The group claimed that its economic claims were not recognized by the Lazio Region. D’Amato has always maintained that he rejected Angelucci’s offer.

The Rome prosecutor, Gennaro Varone, after an in-depth investigation, decided to ask for the case to be dismissed. The motivation behind this request is the lack of evidence of the corrupt offer by Angelucci.

The former councilor D’Amato, now a member of the Action Party after his experience with the Democratic Party, and fresh from the unsatisfactory result in the recent European elections, opposed the request for dismissal. For this reason, a hearing has been set for October 14th to discuss the opposition.

In the meantime, the hearing of the same proceeding, scheduled for today and concerning Salvatore Ladaga, President of the Velletri Municipal Council, and another person, was postponed to November 26th. Angelucci’s position in this proceeding had already been eliminated.

The dismissal request for Senator Antonio Angelucci represents an important development in a complex affair that involved important figures in politics and healthcare in Lazio. The outcome of the hearing on 14 October will be crucial to determine whether justice will consider the investigation carried out to be sufficient or whether further investigations will be carried out.

We remember that on 2 October 2020 the then group leader of Forza Italia, Salvatore Ladaga, took the floor to say the following: “I need to communicate to the City Council and my city – began Ladaga – that I was reached by a notification and received a notice of guarantee for facts relating to the month of May 2018, linked to San Raffaele, in the midst of the electoral campaign. I don’t know more, I have read the indictment but I am waiting to verify the pieces of paper, after I was notified of the end of the preliminary activity. As always, I am sure that in this case too Italian justice will take a while, but it will re-establish the truth. I’m not worried – he added –because I have nothing to worry about and I’m confident.”
