“There are approximately 180,000 lighting points registered in the Lucanian area.
The estimated consumption is approximately 40 GWh/year with an average energy expenditure of the order of 20 million euros per year.
Energy efficiency interventions would determine a reduction in consumption by over 40% with a consequent significant reduction in costs related to consumption”.
He said it the regional councilor for the Environment, Energy and Territory of the Basilicata Region, Cosimo Latronico, participating in Rome, at the Sala del Parlamentino of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, at the event “From knowledge of infrastructures to efficient management of territories”.
Latronico added:
“Public external lighting represents a significant cost for the budgets of public bodiesboth in terms of energy costs and maintenance costs.
The creation of a register of light points present in the regional territory represents a strategic tool for territorial programming and planning.
In this perspective, taking advantage of the financial allocation deriving from the 2014-2020 FSC funds, in April 2022 the Basilicata Region announced a tender for the assignment of the service for the creation of the Basilicata public lighting register including the creation of a census in accordance with the PELL IP specification and the execution of energy diagnoses and auditing on the public lighting systems present in the territory of the 131 Municipalities of the Basilicata Region owned by the Municipalities and the Provinces, awarded, with the criterion of most economically advantageous offer.
The measure is managed by the Energy Office, General Directorate of the Environment, Territory and Energy, and represents an important initiative that allows the Region to have centralized information on lighting engineering dataconsumption of the entire territory and state of conservation, to support targeted planning of the redevelopment and efficiency interventions to be implemented.
To date the census is complete.
Starting, therefore, from the state photographed through the conduct of energy audits of each system surveyed, we arrived at the definition of a general framework of the effectiveness and efficiency of regional public lighting, evaluating, in particular, the performance of the technologies installed – concluded the regional councilor – in order to have a qualified basis both for estimating the achievable savings and for the financeability of the interventions.
In the new ERDF/ESF programming 2021/2027 there is a measure relating to public lighting networks which allocates 18 million euros to our region“.
