After the Progetto Comune Sanremo list, the Sanremo Insieme group – which supported Generazione Sanremo and Fulvio Fellegara’s coalition in this electoral round – is also lining up for a free and conscience-based vote in the second round between the candidates in the run-off Gianni Rolando and Alessandro Mager, underlining that he considers “any electoral agreement with anyone to be inexplicable and unacceptable, especially if this involves sharing power”.

The note was released this morning by Lino Serafini for the Sanremo Insieme board of directors, which also includes Daniela Cassini.

«The Sanremo Insieme movement, present for over 30 years in the area with political and institutional activity, intends to express its position around the close deadline of the ballot of 23 and 24 June.

In these administrative elections, we actively contributed to Fulvio Fellegara’s electoral campaign, appreciating his social work in the area, but above all his alternative administrative proposal which brought unity among all the left-wing forces around the values and contents us closer. His proposal received considerable response from the Sanremo electorate who, let us remember, as a whole expressed a clear centre-right vote in the contemporary European elections, despite the low voter turnout. However, this feedback did not allow the city government’s ambitious goal to be achieved.

We are convinced that now, starting from that result and consistently with the contents expressed in the electoral campaign, we must carry forward, inside and outside the City Council, a role of serious, firm, punctual and proactive opposition towards whoever wins the elections in the next run-off , expressing both contenders in the field a similar city project, which we do not share. We therefore believe that any electoral agreement with anyone is inexplicable and unacceptable, especially if this involves sharing power.

Respect for the electorate leads us to say that citizens must vote according to their conscience and their own assessments of merit.

Through work in opposition we will be able to grow and build that real alternative that we began to structure during the electoral campaign; as a Movement we guarantee to contribute to carrying forward those themes that constitute our particular vision of the city: attention to the common good and the prevailing public interest, water and public health, attention to the suburbs and the weakest groups, care for the city and the environment, harmonious and non-speculative development, the absolute value of the city’s culture and historical memory.

In this way, with coherence and clarity, we will collectively prepare the next electoral deadlines with ever greater strength.”
