TUSCANY ECONOMY – Cèramica 2024 in Montelupo Fiorentino

The 31st edition of Cèramica will open in Montelupo Fiorentino on June 21st: three days of exhibitions, installations, events, international exchanges, workshops, open workshops and performances

The event was presented to journalists at Palazzo Strozzi Sacrati in Florence, seat of the Presidency of the Region. “This event – explains president Eugenio Giani – characterizes Montelupo as the capital of Tuscan ceramics, an example of quality craftsmanship that often becomes art, a combination on which the initiative shines a spotlight every year”. “But Montelupo – he adds – is not just ceramics. The municipality is in fact characterizing itself as a center of culture for the Uffizi Tuscany project and the itinerary that will be set up in the Medici villa “L’ambrosiana” which once housed the judicial psychiatric hospital which was then closed”.

For three days therefore, from 21st to 23rd June, from 5pm to midnight on Friday and from 10am to 1pm and from 5pm to midnight on Saturday and Sunday, Montelupo will be a bustling creative construction site that will cross the arteries of the cities to connect the places of ceramic production with the public and artists. In fact, over thirty-five exhibitors have been selected for this year’s market exhibition, a cross-section of Italian and international artisans and artists, with the collaboration of the Montelupo Fiorentino ceramic road association, Cna and the Terracotta Gornaci Union of Samminiatello.

«Ceramics is an element of identity for Montelupo – underlines the very young newly elected mayor Simone Londi -: a centuries-old history of which we reappropriated just fifty years ago with the discovery of the Pozzo dei Lavatoi, a precious deposit of waste used over the centuries by our artisans. We have invested in culture and art as drivers of our community, also from an economic point of view, and we will continue to do so.”

Five exhibitions will be proposed during this thirty-first edition of Cèramica: “Terre di spicerie”, a widespread event dedicated to supplies for hospitals in Tuscany; then “Spice”, where the Montelupo ceramists reinterpret the historical role of ceramics in Tuscan pharmacies; “Cantieri Montelupo”, dedicated to contemporary art, and “”Ceramic non borders and Ceramica futuro”, two exhibitions organized by the Experimental Ceramic Center where the potential of 3D ceramic printing and the future prospects of this craft will also be explored.

Three installations will be inaugurated, in addition to street demonstrations, concerts, themed aperitifs, urban trekking and guided tours.
