The unpaid debts of the Municipality of Modica never cease to amaze us.
The Modica City Council, convened tomorrow 20 June, will have to decide on another “heavy” transaction, for bills not paid before 2019. It seems that the administration of the time and the mayor of those years had a sort of allergy to energy bills.
This time, the debt is with the company Eni Gas e Luce Spa which requested and obtained from the Court of Milan and then also confirmed on appeal, a sentence condemning the Municipality of Modica.
The initial debt, therefore the sum due, was 1,680,781.07 euros, quite a bump! Then through a whole series of contacts between the Municipality and the creditor company, owned by a multinational, a discount was even reached and in the end the debt, the subject of the transaction, was brought to one million and 200 thousand euros, with the discount therefore, approximately 480 thousand euros.
A success, that achieved. In fact, the philosophy of Palazzo San Domenico in recent years has been “don’t pay, to pay less”. And this time, objectively it went well. Past administrators are super happy with the winning strategy, much less the current ones who, innocent, will have to pay 100 thousand euros for three years from 2024 to 2026 with deadlines of 30 March, 30 June, 30 September and 30 December.
This further debt, on which the councilors will have to decide, is added to that already securitized with Enel which, as our readers know, is close to 13 million of which 6.7 million is interest.
And these majority councilors, it is good to know, will have no escape, they will not be able not to approve and what’s more they don’t even have to blink an eye. With their vote, they will give a further blow to the few financial resources of the Municipality, and will hit the poor citizens, the taxpayers to support this debt, obtaining fewer services and fewer social initiatives. Happy with them, happy with everyone.
The Bulgarian majority in Palazzo San Domenico, as the mayor and everyone was quick to define immediately after the election, is also this: forcing your voters, excluding the opposition and those who did not go to vote, to pay their debts done by others, without the possibility of escape.
What will these councilors tell the city? Many were outside Palazzo San Domenico, some were there making beautiful statues of a now discovered system of playing smart with creditors, with the slogan of not paying and then paying less.
But, from rumors gathered, it seems that the river of debt, always hidden and denied, does not stop. In short, this bleeding does not end here. This is why the budgets are not moving forward, final balance sheets and forecasts are not approved and in the meantime the budget councilor continues to reiterate that everything is under control, indeed the appointment of the Regional Commissioners is a stimulus to do well and quickly . If she is happy, the people of Modica can rest assured.
