It is still very serious but stationary FS, the 11-year-old girl who remained underwater on Monday morning at the Aquaneva in Inzago (Milan) apparently after a game that ended badly with her friends. Next to her, in the room of the pediatric intensive care unit of the Papa Giovanni hospital in Bergamo, there are her parents, who do not leave her alone even for an instant and continue to hope that she can recover, even if the doctors are very pessimistic and they fear there could be rather serious internal injuries.
She left the house on Monday morning, when she was very happy because she was going to the first seasonal trip of the Cre, for which she had only been able to sign up thanks to the contributions of Caritas and the parish given the economic difficulties of her family.
The destination of the group, with five buses and over two hundred people including children and entertainers, was the water park in the Milan area. The desire to take a dip in the water, after days of uncertain weather, was great. And in fact, as soon as she arrived, around 10.30, FS entered with some friends into one of the facility’s swimming pools, the one without slides and which slopes down to a maximum depth of 160 centimetres.
Few risks, at least apparently, because then the group started to challenge each other to see who could stay under water the longest and something went wrong: the eleven year old, who didn’t even know how to swim, never resurfaced and ended up on the bottom unconscious.
The other little girls caught the attention of Don Andrea Piana who accompanied the group, who in turn called one of the lifeguards of the structure who jumped into the water to recover FS.
Once she was taken to the poolside, the gravity of the situation was clear: she was in cardiac arrest and the Aquaneva staff performed cardiac massage on her, under the terrified eyes of her friends who witnessed the entire scene. In the meantime, the call to 118 went out and when the medical staff arrived on site they continued the resuscitation maneuvers, and then proceeded with the emergency transport by air ambulance to the Papa Giovanni hospital in Bergamo, where the little girl is still hospitalized. the prognosis remains reserved and life support is ensured only by machinery.
The investigations are entrusted to the local police officers of Inzago and the Carabinieri of Pioltello, who are trying to reconstruct the exact dynamics of what happened. The images from the park’s cameras are being examined, also to understand how long the little girl remained under water before being rescued.
In the meantime, the investigators are listening, in addition to the parish priest and the animators, to the approximately 200 children who took part in the trip to clarify every detail and establish whether there may have been negligence on the part of anyone. At the moment there are no suspects but news cannot be ruled out in the next few hours.
