The new adventures of a writer in the Tuscan sun

Based on the novel of the same name by writer Frances Mayes, Under the Tuscan sun is a 2003 film by Audrey Wells, starring Diane Lane and starring Sandra Oh, Lindsay Duncan, Raoul Bova and Vincent Riotta. Among the curiosities of the film, the artistic cast also includes one of the greatest masters of Italian cinema, Mario Monicelli. The director, in fact, plays the role of an elderly man with flowers, a truly picturesque cameo by the master. The film will be broadcast this evening at 9.10pm on Rai Movie.

The film tells the story of Frances, a San Francisco writer in crisis and depressed after a recent separation; Patti, her friend, gives her a ten-day holiday in Tuscany, hoping to lift her spirits. In Italy, Frances decides to change her life and buys an abandoned villa, Villa Bramasole, in Cortona, fascinated by the Tuscan countryside. During a trip to Rome, in search of glass brittles from an ancient chandelier, to escape the advances of a group of Roman boys she kisses an illustrious stranger. She thus meets Marcello who takes her to her Positano and with whom an overwhelming passion is established which finally leads her to overcome her emotional and sexual blocks.

However, the call of the renovation works brings her back to the villa in Tuscany. Here her American friend Patti takes refuge while waiting for a baby and left by her partner. Other characters revolve around the villa and when, after months, Frances returns to Positano she finds a Marcello who has already forgotten that overwhelming passion that made her throb after some time.
