TREVISO – Three sections under commissionership and a list of ten militants sent to the regional secretariat to evaluate itsexpulsion; assorted tensions and final argument between the regional councilor Federico Caner and the regional councilor Roberto Bet. This is the brief summary of the turbulent provincial management of the League Trevigiana which took place on Monday evening in the historic headquarters of K3 in Villorba, a stone’s throw from Treviso, which has seen more than a few showdowns of this kind.

THE LIST

As expected, Dimitri Coin, provincial secretary, brought before a very crowded assembly for the occasion, with around sixty people present, the names of those militants who in the last local elections run against officially supported candidates and lists by the League. Ten names have ended up in the crosshairs, all non-prominent figures, but all in progress with lists against the League. There brawl it broke out in the municipality of Valdobbiadene where the section secretary is at risk of expulsion Pierantonio Geronazzowho ran supporting the outgoing civic mayor Luciano Fregonese who was dumped by the League which instead supported the candidate proposed by Fratelli d’Italia Martina Bertelle. Result: Fregonese won, Geronazzo was elected to the council as the most voted in the municipality. But this was not enough for him to avoid the sword of Damocles of expulsion. Riccardo Barbisan, municipal councilor of Treviso and regional deputy secretary, attempted to save what could be saved by defending Geronazzo and stating that the secretary Alberto Stefani would also move to mediate. But he was of no use: the section secretary ended up on Coin’s blacklist and, among the ten, he is also the highest in rank.

THE BIG

They are instead left out of the reckoning big shots like the group leader in the Region Alberto Villanova and the parliamentarian Gianangelo Bof: the first was accused of not having run for the Northern League mayoral candidates, the second of having supported the Veronese Borchia and not the Treviso Manera in the European elections. Their cases, after analysis, were not deemed that serious. But, let’s say, a sort of thing happened for both of them warning. Villanova commented as follows: «I am calm, indeed Very Serene, on Friday we will all be in Montecchio Maggiore for the Autonomy party».

The ax instead fell on the rebel sections: they were placed under commissioners those of Caerano And Loria where practically all the militants ran against the instructions of the provincial and before being expelled they returned their membership cards. In reality, here too we are talking about about ten militants in total, but the political signal sent is very strong. The much more important section of Vittorio Venetowhere the League split after the expulsion of the symbol man Gianantonio Da Re. Here, three members of the board of directors resigned due to differences on the strategy to be adopted in the run-off, where the League was excluded without even having managed to elect a municipal councilor. It is inevitable to end up under the management of the commissioner.

THE FIGHT

Finally, the duel between Caner and Bet: the former was the electoral manager of the small town of Codognè where the latter was mayor for two terms and the outgoing mayor Lisa Tommasella is his wife. Tommasella, however, was not supported by the League but she ran anyway, also returning her membership card to avoid expulsion. In the end she lost, the municipality therefore remained in the Northern League. But what happened left its mark. Caner and Bet confronted each other in very heated tones, blaming one another split, yet another, not without repercussions. Coin had to manage the situation but the waste left between the two will be disposed of with difficulty.
