The wait is over. For the over 46 thousand students of high schools, state technical and professional institutes (41,952) and private schools (4,340) in Sicily, today is the day of the first written test of the state exam, the Italian theme, the same for all courses of study. Six hours of time and one of three types of tracks to choose from. Last year there were 48,580 candidates, 2,288 more than this year. Of the almost 42 thousand state school graduates, Palermo is the province in which the largest number is concentrated with 9,948 (10,168 last year) students. In Ustica, however, there is only one maturando. Gaetano Caminita will turn 19 on June 22nd and will take the Italian test alone this morning at 8.30. An exceptional event for the island and, in general, for the world of school, which will be attended by the director of the Regional School Office for Sicily, Giuseppe Pierro.

“Schools exist in the most complex areas of a region as well as in the most remote ones – says USR director Pierro -. This is because everyone and at any age must be able to access education. Quality education capable of preparing young people and providing them with the tools necessary to better face the world of work”. Sicilian high school graduates also receive a special good luck from the President of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani. “It will be a transition to be lived with commitment, but also with serenity and with an eye to the future – says the governor -. You, our young people, are the main resource on which this land can and must bet to grow with increasingly solid foundations based on knowledge, competence, merit, respect for the rules and solidarity. Ad maiora.”
