Bad weather, the Piazzole scout base is closed and “requests” help

There Piazzole scout basean enchanting meeting place in the woods between Gussago and Brione, is asking for help. Bad weather which hit the province of Brescia a week ago did not even spare the property of the San Giorgio foundation, remained isolated due to landslides and mudslides which led to the temporary closure (still in place) of provincial road 10, the only access route to the area.

In pure scout style, the volunteers rolled up their sleeves and – having obtained a special permit – in the last few hours they traveled along the provincial road and reached Piazzole to check the damage caused by the flood and to make the places safe.

(Insecurity

«The houses suffered negligible damage – explains Paolo Torri of the San Giorgio Foundation -. However, the damage to roads and forests is significant. Severe erosion and landslides occurred on the access road to the buildings and on the forest roads inside the land. The drains and water management works were filled and damaged. Some underground networks were also torn away by water erosion. The damage requires urgent safety works to create temporary slopes that allow access to properties, currently not accessible, without risks. Afterwards it will be necessary to restore and consolidate all the stream beds and internal forest roads.”

What happened puts at risk the possibility of continuing scouting activities safely now that the summer camp season is starting. So much so that the evening of bivouacs in Piazzole scheduled for June 20th was cancelled.
