A plan for the flooding of the Breggia has been drawn up in Como

In the event of an earthquake in Como, the historic center of the city is the area most at risk. This is what is written in the new Civil Protection Plan which will be discussed at the next meeting of the City Council. Beyond the remote possibility of an earthquake (as Como is absolutely not an area at seismic risk), landslides and floods cannot be ruled out, considering the consequences of climate change.

In short, Palazzo Cernezzi, dealing with some areas that have become very fragile, is equipping itself with a new civil protection plan: in addition to mapping the areas at risk, it also provides for the interventions to be implemented in the event of an alarm (buildings to be evacuated, emergency meeting place, public places for reception).

Among the possible floods, the Plan envisages one in Breggia, near Tavernola, in the area that includes the shopping center and a large company. A flood which according to monitoring would involve four people. The consequences of a possible flooding of the Cosia would be much more serious, as three buildings and a restaurant would be affected: here the people involved would be 65. All the mountains that delimit the borders of Como are at risk of landslides, including the Spina Verde which extends up to Chiasso. Overall, there are 548 people in Como living in risk areas.
