Traffic disruptions and even rear-end collisions occurred in the morning following traffic restrictions on the Taranto-Grottaglie for the work within the scope of demolition of the overpass at Buffoluto. The works include the demolition and reconstruction of the overpass with a steel deck. Completion scheduled for July 2nd.

In in particular, vehicles coming from Grottaglie are diverted onto the junction for Paolo VI-Circummarpiccolo. The slowdown caused, as mentioned, some accidents which were fortunately minor. In particular, a truck hit a series of cars.

However, here are the traffic restrictions in detail as set out by Anas:

closure to traffic on SS 7 VIA APPIA from km 652+500 to km 654+800, due to demolition of the SS 7 overpass at km 652 710, on all lanes, Direction TARANTO-BRINDISI and BRINDISI-TARANTO, starting from 06:00 on 18/06/2024 until 17:00 on 02/07/2024; will affect all users;

closure to traffic on SS 7 VIA APPIA from km 652+400 to km 652+400, due to demolition of the SS 7 overpass at km 652 710, on entrance ramp, SS 7 junction at km 652 400 direction Grottaglie-Brindisi for those coming from Taranto from the SS7 ter at km 0 500 at km 0 500 and from Martina Franca, starting from 06:00 on 18/06/2024 until 17:00 on 02/07/2024; will affect all users;

closure to traffic on SS 7 VIA APPIA from km 654+700 to km 654+700, due to demolition of the SS 7 overpass at km 652 710, on entrance ramp, SS 7 junction at km 654 700 direction Bari-Taranto for those coming from the SP77 (from the Paolo VI district) and from the SP78 (from the Mar Piccolo), starting from 06:00 on 18/06/2024 until 17:00 on 02/07/2024; will affect all users.

ITINERARY 1

The alternative itinerary following the closure of the SS7 provides that: for all vehicles coming from Grottaglie and heading to Taranto, compulsory exit “Paolo VI -Circummarpiccolo” at km 654+800 and then take the SP 77, Viale Cannata ex SP 21 and the SS 172 towards Taranto or Martina Franca; for all vehicles coming from Taranto (Reggio Calabria SS7, Taranto Centro SS7ter) and Martina Franca (SS 172) and heading to Brindisi, mandatory exit “Martina Franca – Valle D’itria” at km 652+500 and then take the SS 7 ter, SP for Paolo VI, SS 172, Viale Cannata ex SP 21 and SP 77 towards Brindisi. For the section in question, longer travel times of around 15 minutes are estimated.

ITINERARY 1a

(Recommended route in order to intercept vehicles before the Ponte Punta Penna/Taranto Centro junction (green)): For vehicles coming from Martina Franca (SS 172) and heading to Brindisi we recommend the “Paolo VI” exit and then follow Viale Cannata ex SP 21 and SP 77 towards Brindisi. For vehicles coming from Taranto (from Reggio Calabria SS7) and heading to Brindisi we recommend the “Martina Franca” exit and then take the SS 172, “Paolo VI” exit, Viale Cannata ex SP 21 and SP 77 towards Brindisi.
