«In the meantime, I thank the 9,433 voters who placed their trust in me and in the project – says the centre-right mayoral candidate – and the data relating to the over 2 thousand more votes that my opponent received compared to the first round cannot go unnoticed while we regained the same grades as 15 days ago.
It is clear that it was a vote of strong opinion, a sign of discontinuity which must be acknowledged by taking on the political responsibility for the defeat as head of the coalition. However, I have no major mistakes to reproach myself for.”
On the coalition that supported him: “Fewer votes arrived than we expected, some lost in the drop in turnout. We certainly paid for the initial division and it is not just a question of algebra. Of course, with a united center-right, a more solid political proposal would have been offered to the city, especially with a mayoral candidate different from the outgoing mayor. We will make our project available to the city at least on the main issues. From the benches of the minority, I have played the role of councilor and ours will be a constructive and serious opposition that will converge on the issues that are deemed useful for Civitavecchia”.
Then one looks to the future… in someone else’s home: «I believe that the coalition made up of the Democratic Party, the 5 Star Movement and the Green Left Alliance has something unnatural about it, which will make Piendibene hostage to the allies. The views of the three political subjects are too divergent from each other, and in my opinion they will not be able to guarantee governability. Indeed – Grasso jokes, but not too much – the additional majority councilor will penalize them. At the same time, I am concerned about topics where they agree, such as offshore wind.”
