The scholarships named in memory of Elsa Pigoli Zucch were delivered on Tuesday morningi intended for the city’s most deserving disabled students identified by a special commission. The ceremony, held in the Consultation Room of the Town Hall, saw the participation of the councilor for Social Policies and Fragility Rosita Viola, of Alessia Zucchi, representing the family of Gianni Zucchi, who at the time established the recognition, of Marida Brignani and Grazia Baldaro, respectively president and secretary of the Soroptimist International Club, an association that has always supported the initiative, of some members of the Club, as well as relatives and teachers of the winners.

The three scholarships, of 500.00 euros each, for primary and secondary school students, announced in recent months, have been awarded to Ioan Sebastian Balasete, enrolled in the 2nd class of the “G. Aselli”, to Luca Caselani, enrolled in the 5th class of the “A. Ghisleri”, and to Gaia Bagnardi, enrolled in the third academic year of the University of Milan (based in Edolo) in the three-year degree course “Enhancement and Protection of the Environment and Mountain Territory”. Gaia Bagnardi was unable to be present as she was involved in an activity organized by the University.

The establishment of these scholarships dates back to 1984, the year in which Gianni Zucchi, in memory of his wife Elsa, he decided to allocate scholarships to disabled students who demonstrated perseverance and enthusiasm in their school commitments. Elsa Pigoli Zucchi was one of the founders of the Soroptimist International Club of Cremona in the 1960s and this recognition is part of the aims of the association, which is concretely active on many fronts. The commission responsible for evaluating the applications was made up of councilor Rosita Viola, delegated by mayor Gianluca Galimberti, Alessia Zucchi, as well as the pro-tempore president of the Soroptimist International Club of Cremona who delegated Marisa Bellini and the secretary of the Club Grazia Baldaro. Thanks to this award, as was underlined during the short but well-attended ceremony, effective collaboration between public and private is renewed every year, as well as recognition of the commitment, perseverance and passion of these young people as an incentive to continue with the course of study undertaken was successful: an example for all young people, whether frail or not, under the banner of valorising skills, the importance of knowledge and the knowledge that can be achieved, each according to their own abilities, with help from families, teachers and institutions. At the end of the ceremony, the mayor Gianluca Galimberti also spoke to greet the winners, the members of the commission and all those present.
