The Cosenza1 and Cosenza2 teams of ASD Gioacchino Greco participated in the 55th edition of the Italian Chess Team Championships (CIS)
THE Team Championships, organized by the Italian Chess Federation, are perhaps the most anticipated chess event of the year, in which the skills of the individual must be coordinated with excellent teamwork.
The matches all took place during the weekend (15 and 16 June) at the Clubbino in San Nicola Arcella (CS) which stands on the cliff overlooking one of the most beautiful bays of our Calabria, the players were able to admire an enchanting panorama beauty, the suggestive scenery of Policastro.
In the PROMOTION series of the CALABRIA NORD group of the CIS 2024, 5 teams faced each other: the aforementioned Cosenza1 and Cosenza2 of the ASD Gioacchino Greco, the Tirrenici and the Arcomagno of the ASD Scacchi Riviera dei Cedri and the Corigliano-Rossano of the homonymous ADS Scacchi, teams made up of many young promises.
Cosenza1, captained by Cofone Cristian, and composed of Chiappetta Giovanni (2N), Cofone Cristian (2N), De Donato Roberto (2N), Maletta Francesco (2N) and last but not least Reda Francesco (2N), concluded the tournament in first position scoring 7 points out of 8 and thus gaining promotion to Serie C. Tirrenici came in second place, Corigliano-Rossano in third place, Cosenza2 in fourth and finally Arcomagno in fifth place.
The President of the ASD Gioacchino Greco, Roberto de Donato, declares himself proud of the result obtained, stating that this promotion can only be a good omen for the city’s chess movement.
