A message immediately arose question and answeramong the candidates for ballot of Sanremo, Gianni Rolando and Alessandro Magerafter the news (HERE) published by our newspaper, in relation to the decision of the groups in support of Fulvio Fellegarato entrust the vote next Sunday and Monday to the consciences of their voters.

“The ‘ultracivic’ candidate Mager – highlight from the group of Rolando – is franticly seeking support from the parties for the run-off. His ‘ultracivic’ position falters, and to obtain the result he promises ‘armchairs’ to the extreme right (Independence) and the extreme left… practically the entire constitutional spectrum! Perhaps he regretted his ‘just flaunted’ ultracivism, far from party logic? Or is he so worried about the final result that he is ready to recognize, finally, that the support of the parties is fundamental? On the other hand, his ‘political godfather’ Claudio Scajola also has the support of the parties”.

“Then there is an isolated ‘fringe’ on the left – ends – who publicly declares to support Mager in the run-off, to counter the rise of the right. They probably didn’t realize that Mager himself received the support of Indipendenza, complete with a joint banquet in Via Matteotti, a national party headed by Gianni Alemanno and an expression of the extreme right. Happy voting everyone.”

It didn’t take long for the reply to our article to be made also by Alessandro Mager: “The next mayor of Sanremo – he said – will have to dutifully broaden the perspective of its action in order to represent as many instances as possible. The citizens asked us to do so with a very complex first round vote, which must be listened to with a great sense of responsibility, even more so today when the city of Sanremo finds itself on the eve of decisive strategic choices and major changes. I feel this as a moral, as well as political, duty.”

Mager addresses Fulvio Fellegara and his community directly: “I ask them for concrete support in the runoff – he said – because I believe that the values, starting from that of anti-fascism, the programs and visions that bind us are far superior to the differences that separate us. This does not mean making political connections or agreements. This option, although legitimate from a political point of view, I exclude. For coherence and because it would not be understood by the respective electorates. But we can and must find programmatic sharing on key issues, and I refer precisely to the words of Fulvio Fellegara when he said that for his coalition ‘what counts are the issues and the attention that the program will receive and not the personal positions ‘. I am thinking of the protection of public health and the hospital of Sanremo, on which it will be necessary to make a common front also at the provincial level, of environmental sustainability, of the centrality of culture also from a tourism perspective, of the planning of new nursery schools and the care and recovery of hamlets and suburbs. Furthermore, we cannot fail to mention the novel element introduced by the mayoral candidate Fellegara when he proposed to focus on the university of floriculture and entertainment, extraordinary assets that distinguish the city of Sanremo with its floricultural tradition and the strength of its Festival of Song”.

“In July we will also have a first change in the budget – Mager goes on – which will unlock the treasure left by the outgoing administration: it is the first concrete step to share ideas and projects. Behind the direct challenge between the two mayoral candidates on 23 and 24 June there are also two visions of different cities, two different programs, different teams, with different ideas and different values. I deeply feel the responsibility to do everything possible to prevent the city from ending up being governed by parties and people who, when they administered it in the past, caused it to fall into dramatic immobility and caused enormous waste of public money, putting the Municipality in debt and leaving a legacy subsequent administrations were left with gigantic budget holes.”

“For this reason I hope – ends Mager – a programmatic convergence with all the forces that wish to oppose the drift that the victory of the Rolando coalition would bring with it”.
