Over the past weekend, the State Police of L’Aquila set up targeted services to combat the excessive speed and incorrect behavior of many road users, especially motorcyclists who, in the summer period, prefer the mountain roads of the province.

The policemen of the Carsoli Traffic Police Detachment patrolled the SS5 in the municipalities of Tagliacozzo and Carsoli, checking 28 motorcyclists and issuing five reports; in particular, it was ascertained that two centaurs were traveling with vehicles equipped with devices that did not comply with the provisions of the Highway Code and, therefore, they were sanctioned pursuant to art. 72 of the CdS which provides for the payment of an administrative fine from 87 to 334 euros.

Two other motorbike drivers did not have the required documents with them and, consequently, were sanctioned, as required by art. 180 of the Highway Code which establishes an administrative fine from 25 to 102 euros.

A fifth motorcyclist, caught overtaking on the right, also had 5 points deducted from his license in addition to the expected administrative fine.

The employees of the Traffic Police Subsection of L’Aquila, however, working on the SS80 in the Cermone and Campotosto areas, ascertained, through the use of the telelaser, the excessive speed of numerous motorists and motorcyclists; immediately after the checks, 3 driving licenses were withdrawn from the same number of motorcyclists who, as required by art. 142 of the Highway Code had exceeded the speed limits. Two of them, in addition to the administrative sanction of paying a sum ranging from 543 to 2170 euros, will have their license suspended for up to three months, while a third who exceeded the permitted limit by 71km/h will be subject to the payment of a fine of up to to 3382 euros, with license suspension from 6 to 12 months. The points deducted were a total of 39.

The services will also continue over the coming weekends to ensure greater safety on the roads.
