the party in Rimini • Il Goriziano

The “Audaces Gorizia” basketball team wrote a page of history last Sunday 16 June, becoming Italian champion in the over 40 category. After a decade, the national title returns to Friuli Venezia Giulia, thanks to determination and passion of these veterans of the segmented ball. The journey towards the tricolor began on May 24th with winning the regional titlea success that opened the doors to national finals in Rimini from 14 to 16 June. Here, the team led by coach Fabrizio Bolzicco showed what they are made of, overcoming their opponents and winning the title they dreamed of.

The semi-final and national final were the culmination of three days of intense competition, culminating in a decisive victory against a determined and difficult Bolognese team. After a balanced start, the Audaces took control of the game in the second half, guaranteeing victory by also reaching a margin of 16 points which left little hope for their opponents for a late comeback. The race then came ended with a score of 44 to 59. Captain Andrea Pensabene represented the beating heart of the team, dedicating himself to achieving this extraordinary goal.

President Giulio Casella showed his big heart, traveling back and forth between Gorizia and Rimini twice in three days to support the team in this unforgettable adventure. Each member of the team contributed their commitment and passion for basketball, proving that age is just a number when it comes to pursuing a common passion. Every sacrifice, from vacations taken to heroic efforts to attend games, contributed to cohesion and success. This national triumph is not only a sporting achievement, but also recognition of the group’s hard work and dedication.
